Basic Fingerless Gloves- Free Crochet Pattern

Make the perfect gloves for all your adventures! A pair of fingerless gloves are great for everyday winter wear, or to add depth to a costume. I love the mobility that having my fingers free gives too. I wanted to create a basic pattern that anyone could follow. It’s great for beginners who need a step-by-step guide, or for more experienced crocheters who can take this pattern and run with it. It’s so easy to customize the size and fit, as well as add cool trims or colorwork to give the finished products all different vibes. A merperson from the sea, cold from the air; a fair unicorn, lost in the world of man. What will you create?

Materials

  • 4.5mm hook
  • Worsted weight yarn (Ex: Red Heart Super Saver, Big Twist, I Love this Yarn)
  • Other colors and trims of choice (Optional)

Skill Level

Beginner (hdc, ch, sl st)

Notes & Tips

  • If you want the seam on the palms of both gloves, make 1 glove with the thumb hole chain space at the end of round 7 instead of the beginning.
  • If you’re using a finer worsted yarn like Caron Simply Soft or Yarn Bee Soft Secret, chain 29 to start, add 1 extra row before the thumb hole, ch 8, sk 6 for the thumb hole, and add 1 extra row at the end.
  • Final Measurements: 3.5 inches across, 7 inches long. Add rows after Round 6, 19 or add to the starting chain as needed to adjust size.

Add fluffy trims, or try multiple colors to get totally different results from the same pattern. Some simple stripes made festive candy cane gloves, furry trim created a perfect Santa look, and a vibrant teal base with some eyelash yarn trim gives off mermaid vibes. I also added an extra row of stitches around the thumb hole on one pair for some extra warmth and coverage. The combinations are endless, so have fun with it, experiment, and push the limits of this simple fingerless glove guide!
